Memories of Mollie

from Cathy Cameron

I’ve known Mollie almost since I started in archaeology. In Albuquerque, in our twenties we had countless adventures (bombing around her little blue VW, country-western dancing, and trick-or-treating one Halloween disguised as children, and a trip to the Yucatan that the pictures are from).

She managed to get me a job on the project where I met my future husband Steve. Later we were all thrilled to watch her romance with Wolky develop and over the years to hear her speak so proudly of her two wonderful sons, Nick and Spencer. One of my favorite things about Mollie was her ability as a story-teller – she could make even mundane events into an amusing account you’d remember years later.

We haven’t lived in the same town for the last few decades, but still managed to visit several times a year and had at least one more amazing river trip. I have been totally inspired hearing her talk about the work she did in children’s education and learning about the difference she was making in the lives of these kids. In January this year I attended an entire session she organized at the Southwest Symposium about the importance of people in the past and the present, including her work in experiential learning. Mollie was a person who made a difference in the world and in the lives of those she encountered. I am so lucky to have known her.
